This 2002 BMW M Roadster was delivered new to the Los Angeles, California area and owned by the dealership for the first 10k miles. The first owner purchased the E36/7 in 2003 and moved it to Colorado in 2006. It was exported to British Columbia by the previous owner in 2008, and the seller acquired it in the summer of 2015 and relocated it to Bellingham, Washington. He has driven the roadster approximately 10k miles, and has replaced the clutch, power steering reservoir, fluids, and filters. An aftermarket subframe reinforcement was also installed. The 3.2-liter S54 engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and has been modified with catless headers and mid pipes. Records and receipts date back to 2006, and the car is now being offered with a clean Carfax and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
Finished in Phoenix Yellow Metallic (445), the car is said to retain its original body panels with VIN stickers. The paint shows normal wear on forward facing surfaces, as well as some chips on the leading edges of the front splitter. A black soft top, windscreen, and convertible boot are included. The Steel Grey hardtop is available at an extra cost.
The original 17″ Shadow Chrome Style 40 wheels have been recently replaced with earlier Hyper Silver units from the seller’s 2000 M Roadster. The wheels are shod with Sumitomo HTR Z tires that have a tread depth of 4/32″ in front and 2/32″ out back.
Inside, the black Nappa leather (Q6SW) upholstery on the M seats shows below normal wear for their age and mileage, though some minor creasing is apparent on the driver’s bolsters. A leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel was a standard item for the M Roadster, and the seller has replaced the illuminated M shift knob with a ZHP version.
This car was optioned with the remote locking system and alarm, though the system currently doesn’t activate from the fob. The Harmon Kardon subwoofer is blown, and the auto dimming mirror is not working. The lighting, power accessories, and the grey-faced gauges are functioning properly, and 106,100 miles are shown on the odometer.
The 3.2-liter S54 inline-six engine was good for 315 hp in stock form and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller has installed a catless header with catless and resonator-less mid pipes. The stock mufflers are still in place, and the factory headers are included in the sale. A Conforti Shark Injector increases both horsepower and torque, and raises the rev limiter to 8100 RPMs.
After an inspection in 2017 revealed some rear subframe damage, an aftermarket fabricated subframe reinforcement was installed. The work included reinforcement plates that were sealed and painted. The welds were verified as penetrating the subframe floor, and the underside was striped, primed, and recoated.
Service records dating back to 2006 are included, and show that the clutch and power steering reservoir were replaced two years ago at 96k miles. In January 2018, the seller had all of the fluids and filters replaced.
The accident-free Carfax records prior ownership history and corroborates mileage with 13 odometer readings from January 2003 to July 2014. The original owner’s manuals and stock headers come with the car, along with four keys and two fobs.
