Here is my 1998 M Roadster in Estoril Blue.
I bought this car from the original owner of 18 years. It’s extremely clean and is ready to go. It has 135k on it which is less than 7k a year as it has always been a summer car. As you can see it has the rare optional Hard top with rear defrost. It transforms the car into a whole new experience, and I prefer it this way. The soft top is power and is in great shape and it has a new rear window. The interior is in remarkable shape, with perfect seats, dash, and carpet. All power accessories work as they should. The AC is ice cold as well. As you can see, the factory warning stickers are still on the gauge cluster. In 1998, the invasive BMW traction control was not available on the M Roadsters, which makes them more desirable, because the system is terrible and problematic. The optional BMW alarm was installed at the dealer when the car was new. It doesn’t unlock the doors, it’s just an alarm. The new ZHP shift knob adds around 10 hp I hear.
There are no dents or dings in the body, the paint is excellent. The car has had a professional paint correction and is as slick as snot. All exterior M emblems and BMW roundels were replaced at this time, so they are fresh with no fading. The car has had the hood replaced with a factory BMW part. The car was backed into by a dummy valet park attendant with an SUV and it was creased just above the drivers wheel. I believe the original owner because I saw the pictures. It was very minor and he pitched a fit, as most of us would do. The hood could’ve been repaired but he demanded a new one. I mean a new factory hood is better than an original panel filled with mud, right? Either way it had to be painted. You won’t find this on any carfax reports, but in the interest of full disclosure I thought it should be mentioned. It happened about 10 years ago. Other than that, all body panels including the front and rear bumpers are original. I had the wheels completely repaired and refinished in as close to the factory finish as possible. New BMW centercaps and M emblems were placed on the wheels as well. New Michelin Pilot Super Sports were installed at this time. They have about 2500 miles on them. The car also comes with another COMPLETE set of factory wheels shod with Continental DWS all season tires. It now has the 1999+ rear tail lights and side indicators, but the tri color factory tails go with the car. The hard top also has a factory cover that accompanies it.
When I got the car it needed some minor attention. I installed Bilstein B6 shocks along with H&R springs. At this time I also replaced the front control arm bushings and some other wearable suspension bits, all with OEM parts. The brakes needed refreshing so new StopTech rotors were done all the way around with four new calipers and Hawk HPS pads. Stainless steel lines and fresh Motul brake fluid. I also ordered and installed a Strong Strut tie bar. They make the best bracing for the Z cars in the market. I also ordered a cold air intake that draws air from down in the bumper similar to a Dinan intake. I have never installed it, but it goes with the car. The engine and trans are completely oil tight, with zero leaks. The complete cooling system was done about 15k ago. Also around that time the BMW dealer installed a new factory clutch, flywheel, and center support bearing, which was about $2500. No maintenance has ever been deferred on this car. It has always been well taken care of and it shows in how it drives.
I have all factory keys, books, manuals and window sticker for the car as well as the high ticket repairs since new. This M Roadster needs nothing. I am selling the car because I simply have too many cars and bikes and not enough places to keep them all. I know I will regret letting this one go someday. I have a ton more pictures of the car. Any questions or concerns feel free to contact me. Thanks for looking.
