This is a one owner Texas BMW from new with a sticker price of $43,155 when new! With a clean Carfax and actual miles , Carfax also shows 14 service receipts. Average yearly mileage is only 5,444 miles per year.

This example was made on April 27, 1998 in BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina factory. It left the assembly line with the following options – M Leather Steering Wheel, power windows, power and heated sideview mirrors, non-smoker package, sports bucket seats with heaters, high-fidelity AM/FM stereo with six CD changer, air-conditioning, cruise control, dual front airbags and side airbags and locking, limited-slip rear differential and more.

This example is one of 412 M Roadsters made in 1998 in this exterior and interior combination with a black, folding soft top and this engine. It was delivered new to David C. at Classic BMW in Dallas, Texas on April 30, 1998 with 2,161 miles on the clock.

Dressed in Estoril Blue Metallic, the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent order. The droptop’s bodywork is straight and solid, its body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the body, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery appears new, the glass is intact and clear, and the lights look fresh. The black, power-folding soft top is three years old and is very good overall shape.

This car rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 radials in front, size 225/45ZR17 and Sumitomo Tour Plus LSW radials in back, size 225/45ZR17. Each one is mounted to a factory alloy wheel. The tires are in very good order while a couple of the alloys evidence a bit of road rash.

Under the hood is 3.2L, DOHC, 24-valve straight six engine with a single VANOS (variable valve timing) (code S52) breathing through quad exhausts and with a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Backing this motor is a ZF Type C five-speed manual transmission and a 3.23:1 limited-slip rear differential. The differential has a maximum locking of 25 percent is standard. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, cruise control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors in front, heated bucket seats and sideview mirrors and M Leather Steering Wheel.

Safety equipment includes dual front airbags, driver and passenger side airbags, anti-lock brakes and a pop-up rollover bar with green windscreen shade.

Inside, the car has a rare Estoril Blue and Black Nappa Leather interior with sport seats that are heated. The color looks great and the seats are in overall great shape. The black carpet complements the seats’ appearance. The three-spoke M Leather Steering Wheel looks fantastic while the black and blue instrument panel has full instrumentation and is in overall very good order, as are the matching inner door panels, however there is a noticeable blemish on the passenger inside door skin. The center console and shift are ready to roll and a Harmon Kardon AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and a six-disc CD changer in the trunk.

The Z3 M Roadster was introduced in 1996 as the high-performance version of the BMW Z3. Cosmetic differences between the Z3 M and the standard Z3 models included front and rear bumpers, gills, boot and mirrors.

Convertible competition to this BMW in 1998 included Acura’s NSX, Aston Martin’s DB7 Volanté, Chevrolet’s Corvette, Mercedes-Benz’s SL 320, Porsche’s 911 Carrera and Toyota’s MR2.

If you’re seeking a near-classic two-seater with some extra power, you can’t go wrong with this BMW M Roadster. Finished in a color within and without that is hard to find 20 years later, this car is beautiful and ready for you so stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today.
