Before 98k Miles... I can email over the CarFax for extended maintenance history information
I received this vehicle 8 months ago on a partial trade for my 911 turbo. In my 8 months of ownership, the vehicle has been trouble free. I am selling because I'm moving into a camper van to travel north America and work remotely. I did take the vehicle to Sterling BMW in Newport for an inspection where they discovered a stress crack near the differential mounts, commonly known as the "subframe". It is planned to be replace and reinforced. I'm currently calling around for quotes and seeing if insurance will cover part of the cost. So far the cost is estimated to be around $1,200 - $1,500. This is a common issue to both this model (due to the added torque) as well as many other BMW models such as the e46 M3.
Given it's 22 year age, everything works surprisingly well. From the clock in the dash, power windows, power seats, heated seats, dash volt gauge, dash oil temp gauge, stock radio and cassette player, air conditioner, heater, opening and closing the soft top, and power door locks. It tracks straight. The engine temperature stays right dead center, the clutch grabs well, brakes stop fast, and the revs are snappy.
I have paper receipts that go back the last 15 years. The first owner (1998 - 2003) put on most of the vehicle's mileage. Over the course of the last 17 years, it was driven an average of 3,100 miles a year. I can send you the CarFax. I have the title in-hand and it's title status is clean.
It is worth noting that the vehicle was repainted back in 2007. During the repaint, the only parts replaced was the front bumper, not the hood or front lights. The hood still has the original vin sticker. There are receipts of this repaint. Reading the records, I suspect that the owner opted to repaint the whole vehicle instead of just the bumper because the paint wasn't a 100% match. The records indicate that the previous owner did bring the vehicle back to address paint drips and for touch up. I've checked the body inch-by-inch with a magnet for bondo but couldn't find any spot where a magnet would not stick. You're of course welcome to test for yourself.
Price is $8,000 before subframe reinforcement. $9,500 after repair to offset cost. Price is firm.
