This 1998 BMW M Roadster is finished in Arctic Silver over an Estoril Blue and Black leather interior, and power is supplied by a 3.2-liter inline-six mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The car reportedly remained with its original owner in New Jersey until the seller acquired it in January 2020. Features include a power-operated blue convertible top, power-adjustable heated seats, a factory Harman Kardon stereo, power windows and mirrors, and more. Now showing just under 43k miles, this E36/7 is offered with a Maryland inspection report from February 2020, factory manuals and literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Maryland title in the seller’s name.
The M Roadster featured distinct front and rear bumper covers, M-badged side vents, and quad exhaust outlets that set it apart from the standard Z3. This example—finished in Arctic Silver Metallic (309) with a Dark Blue (S391A) convertible top—is said to be one of only 100 M Roadsters produced in this exterior and interior color combination. The convertible top can be seen in its raised and lowered positions in the photo gallery below. The seller reportedly had the rear window replaced and also commissioned paintless dent repair to remove dings.
The factory staggered-width 17″ Style 40 alloy wheels are unique to the M Roadster and M Coupe, and they are wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact tires showing 2012 date codes. The wheels exhibit curb rash, as shown in the gallery, and are said to have been balanced within the past 1k miles.
The interior is upholstered in Estoril Blue and Black leather (Q6ES). Amenities include power-adjustable heated sport seats, air conditioning, cruise control, a factory Harman Kardon AM/FM cassette stereo, a leather shift knob, a factory alarm system, and power windows and mirrors. The seat bushings are said to have been replaced under current ownership.
The leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel fronts an 8k-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer. The digital odometer shows 43k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller.
The 3.2-liter S52 inline-six utilizes dual overhead camshafts and VANOS variable valve timing. Factory output was rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Service within the past 1k miles is said to have included replacement of the engine air filter and the power-steering hoses, as well as an oil service and coolant flush. Footage of the engine bay is provided in this video.
Additional photos of the underbody showing the exhaust, drivetrain, and suspension components are presented in the gallery.
The March 2020 Carfax report is free of accidents and other issues, and it includes entries for service, registration, and emissions inspections in New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland across two owners.
