This 1998 BMW M Roadster served as a development vehicle for the Dinan S2 Performance Package and was acquired by the seller on BaT in March 2015. Modifications consist of software, induction, and exhaust upgrades for the 3.2-liter inline-six along with suspension enhancements and a lightened clutch assembly for the five-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in silver with a power-operated black soft top over black and red leather upholstery, and additional equipment includes four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, air conditioning, power windows, heated seats, and rollover hoops. This M Roadster shows 39k miles and is offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, tools, a removable factory hardtop, an issue of Road & Track magazine in which the car appeared, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in silver and equipped with a power-operated black convertible top, M Roadster-specific front and rear fascias, rollover hoops, heated mirrors, a clamshell hood with M-branded side vents, and a Dinan decklid badge. The soft top is said to be Robbins replacement, and a body-color factory hardtop is included. The passenger door was reportedly scraped and repainted under previous ownership.
Staggered-width 17″ Style 40 wheels are wrapped in 245/40 front and 275/40 rear BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 tires showing 2015 date codes. Braking is provided by four-wheel ventilated discs, and the suspension was upgraded by Dinan with re-valved Koni shocks at the rear and adjustable sway bars at both ends.
The cockpit features heated sport seats upholstered in black and red leather, with the two-tone treatment continuing across the door panels, dashboard, and center console. Black carpeting is protected by M-embroidered floor mats, and amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks, and a Dinan pedal set. An aftermarket Alpine CD receiver with Bluetooth connectivity is connected to a trunk-mounted McIntosh MC420M power amplifier with dual illuminated output-level meters.
A leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. VDO instrumentation in the center stack includes an analog clock and meters for voltage and oil temperature. The digital odometer shows 39k miles, approximately 2k of which were added by the seller.
The 3.2-liter S52 inline-six is equipped with Dinan’s Stage 4 Engine Software, high-flow cold-air intake system, less restrictive throttle body, and large-bore stainless-steel exhaust system, which are claimed to add 30 horsepower over stock. Other Dinan upgrades include a billet aluminum strut-tower brace and carbon-fiber plates for the camshaft cover.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission linked to a Stage 2 lightweight clutch assembly and a limited-slip differential with a 3.38:1 final-drive.
A plate affixed to the radiator support shows Dinan serial #001 for the S2 Performance Package. The sale includes manufacturer’s literature and tools along with an October 2000 issue of Road & Track magazine in which the car was featured alongside Steve Dinan’s personal ISR 3-equipped M Roadster.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists registration history in California, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana.
