Seller Description

This 1998 BMW M Roadster is a stock 17k-mile example with the 240-hp S52 engine, 5-speed manual transmission and two Texas owners since new. This is a first year M Roadster finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black leather interior. The car is very clean inside and out and maintenance in mid-2015 included a proactive replacement of failure-prone plastic cooling-system components and new fluids in the engine, transmission, cooling system and brakes. CarFax and AutoCheck reports provided below verify mileage and show no accident history.

Arctic Silver Metallic paint is presumed to be original. There are some scuffs on the front bumper cover, spoiler lip and elsewhere. The power convertible top is fully lined and has one-button operation. The canvas material is in good condition.

Staggered alloys are wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza tires. The fronts are 225/45R17; the rears are 245/40R17’s.

Black leather interior, dash and seating surfaces look to be in very good condition commensurate with the low mileage. The seats are heated. Seat belt guides have been removed, as shown above.

The interior is stock with the standard M console, steering wheel, and shift knob. The odometer shows 17,298 miles and the speedo reads to 160 mph, but the rated top speed is governor-limited to 155 mph. The indicated redline is 7k rpm. Everything on the car works including cold A/C, according to the seller.

The 3.2L DOHC inline 6-cylinder engine shared with the E36 M3 was rated at 240 hp @6,000 rpm and 236 ft-lbs of torque @4,250 rpm when new. The car tips the scales at around 3,086 lbs. The previous owner had the cooling-system components replaced last summer after reading that they were prone to failure. At the same time, all fluids were serviced with BMW synthetic oil, BMW antifreeze, Motul ATF, as well as brake fluid and gear oil. A receipt for that $1,079 service is shown below.

The 4-wheel disc brakes are ABS-equipped. Traction control and a limited slip differential are standard.

The underside is tidy and looks to be solid. Additional views are shown in the photo gallery.

BMW maintenance history report above shows servicing at BMW dealership for scheduled maintenance, one recall, and repairs to a faulty power seat. The car received its Inspection 1 from the dealer at 8,100 miles in 2001, just before the warranty ended.

CarFax shows 2 previous Texas owners and no reported accidents.

AutoCheck likewise shows 2 owners and no accidents reported. (Complete report is shown in photo gallery).

Included in the sale are all original tools, manuals and keys. The car is being sold with a clear Texas title.

BAT reserve not met at $16,750

This roadster was just for sale about a month ago on Bimmerforums. It's low mileage and nice, but shows more wear than average for just 17k miles. It will be interesting to see how the BAT auction does. Bidding is currently at $12,000.
