Colorado Car Extensive Maintenance History Summary 1 of 71 in the color combo asking $16500
This 1 of just 71 Alpine White over Black Napa leather M Roadsters for the 2000 model year. With just over 108,000 miles, it is 100% stock. The 2000 model year M Roadsters featured late-model chrome headlight trim rings and were the last year of the S52 engine in any BMW. This is a nice driver-quality example with excellent maintenance history. It was originally delivered in South Carolina, then made its way to New Mexico under several subsequent owners. In 2015, it came to Colorado and remained there for several years until coming home with a BMW enthusiast in Minnesota. The previous owner hit a raccoon, damaging the right front control arm, spindle, tie rod, fender liner, wheel, and front bumper cover. Glen Shelly Automotive in Colorado replaced those items, the wheel and tire, and had the front bumper cover and right fender repainted. They also replaced the battery, hazard switch, rearview mirror mount, shift knob, and both seat belt receptacles. Lastly, they replaced the convertible top and rear window. The total for the work was over $10K (paperwork comes with vehicle). Previous maintenance they completed includes the cooling system, valve cover gasket, VANOS seals, the flex disc (guibo), shift selector seal, front and rear brakes, glove box sag, seat bushings, and rear shocks and shock mounts. The auto-dimming mirror was also replaced with one with solid-state internals. The trunk floor spot welds are healthy except for one weld that is just beginning to sink; the paint is cracked but there is no separation. The Carfax shows minor damage sustained in April 2022 and the eventual repairs in March 2023. As it sits, this is a nice driver-quality Z3 M Roadster ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. Exterior Alpine White 3 paint looks fantastic on the M Roadster. White always looks good, even when dirty. There are a few dents, including one on the hood, onel on the driver-side quarter-panel, and a faint crease on the passenger door. There is no failed clear coat, zero rust, and all VIN tags are in place. The convertible top has no rips or tears, and the rear window panel is in good shape. All trim and black-work are present and not UV faded. 2000 and later model year M Roadsters received chrome rings around the headlight lenses. The outer lenses have become slightly foggy, scratched, and slightly yellowed. All indicator lenses and taillight housings are clear and crack-free. The Style 40 Roadstar staggered wheels (17” x 7.5” front and 17” x 9“ rear) have minor oxidation in the finish, and the 3 wheels have curb rash with the worst being the rear passenger side wheel. They are wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires.
The interior is one of the M Roadster’s most striking design features. The carpets have no stains or tears and are protected by M factory floor mats. The dashboard leather is soft and crack-free. The seat leather is in good shape, although the driver seat-back bolster has moderate wear. The seat bushings are firm, with no rock, thanks to being replaced. All seat motors work, as do the seat heaters, but the passenger side switch is reversed. The passenger side seat belt guide is also cracked, but functional—it does not affect the seatbelt function. The 3-spoke steering wheel has no excessive wear. The instrument cluster has no blown-out pixels and all gauges work correctly. The factory sound system sounds great. The lower switch panel has no cracks in the switch backing plate (a common issue). The glove box has no sag thanks to being reinforced, and the auto-dimming rearview mirror has no fluid leaks thanks to its solid-state internals. All interior functions work correctly; the power windows, power door locks, cruise control; the heat blows warm and the air conditioning blows cold. The convertible top headliner has no tears or sag and the power top functions correctly. The trunk tool kit is complete. Mechanical All major and preventative maintenance is up to date. It has clearly been properly owned and benefitted from regular and routine maintenance, the last several years.
The S52 engine is one of BMW’s reliable power plants, having none of the rod bearing issues or needing the valve adjustments that later S54 powered M Roadsters did. The engine idles smoothly, pulls strong, and has no Vanos rattle thanks to being serviced. The clutch and shifter are crisp and precise. There is no 5th gear lean due to worn shift pins (a common issue). The brakes are firm, the suspension is compliant, and there is no driveline or wheel bearing vibration. The suspension bushings are solid.
Like any M Roadster, it will need and deserves the preventative care and maintenance that all BMWs of this vintage do, but at present it is properly sorted and ready for its new home.
