Selling my 2001 BMW Z3 M Roadster
Clean title about 120,000 miles
Just in time for the good driving season here in the valley! Only selling because I have a 2002 M Coupe and another Z3 roadster with a V8 engine swapped in. I just don't have the time or garage space to keep this right now, although it is a wonderful car.
Good:
$6,000 aftermarket radio installed - sounds great, I've owned Z3's for 15+ years and the audio system on this blows them all out of the water
Sport mode was added with a factory "ASC" (activate sport control) button
Good condition 18" CSL style wheels with low mileage Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires
Koni / H&R struts/springs installed - which lower it the perfect amount and ride just like stock
Tons of recent maintenance:
Oil changed within 1,500 miles
New suspension bushings front and rear including control arms
Front has poly bushings for the control arms, rear has had poly bushings in the subframe for over a decade. No sign of subframe problems
Thermostat was stuck open making it run cold, so that was replaced and coolant flushed at the same time
VANOS was rebuilt with Beisan systems components and VANOS unit, oil filter housing, thermostat and air supply rail were polished
Upgraded Beisan systems upper timing chain guide was also installed same time as the VANOS
Valve shim adjustment was completed within 1,000 miles, same time as the VANOS installed - valve cover gasket was done at the same time since valve cover was off
All belt accessories and belts were replaced
Bad:
Paint is a little faded in some spots - trunk, top of side mirrors, top of the hood side grill trims. The rest of the paint is in great condition so you could just have the bad areas repainted if you wanted
Top could also use a rear window replacement
No history of rod bearings, though blackstone oil analysis shows no issues at this time
Seatbelt guides broken on seats - very common Z3 issue
If you want a driver, it truly needs nothing. It needs some cosmetic love but really nothing major. I waffled on getting it repainted, but I would want to go with a non-factory color and different colored top which may diminish the value, so ultimately I am deciding to sell it as-is.
These are really great cars - ~320hp in a 3000lb package, powered by the S54 engine that redlines at 8000rpm and boy does it love to rev! Beautiful red over red color combo with the contrasting black top. 5 speed manual shifts smoothly and the clutch grabs well. These are addicting to drive and beautiful to look at. They are exactly what you want out of a BMW M car, and being able to drop the top when the weather is nice to take in the scenery can't be beat.
I bought this car from a good friend of mine early last year and was planning on keeping it, thus all the maintenance spent on it - but I don't have garage space for it anymore and don't want to keep it stored outside. It deserves to be taken care of by someone who has the space and time for it.
I am open to reasonable offers, come check it out in person, drive it and make an offer. No trades as I have no space for more cars.
