I bought this car in May with the expectation to keep for a long time but a new job & move forces me to sell. Here's the whole story on the new engine that has less than 3500mi on it.
01-02 M3 Engines had a rod bearing issue. At 108,500mi this car threw a rod bearing. The dealer quoted the owner $15k to rebuild. Owner said no and BMW shop foreman (having serviced the car for 10yrs and knowing it very well) in New Orleans bought the car and rebuilt the the engine himself. Everything is OEM & new! I have the official parts list where he ordered all the parts from BMW (without prices due to him getting dealer cost and he can't reveal those prices) and 10yrs worth of service records and can put you in touch with the shop foreman if needed to verify. It's ridiculous the amount of parts done and done correctly. Too much to list but he also did struts and suspension, cooling system, and numerous other things while doing it. Every single gasket on this engine is new!
Before picking it up I found a hardtop for sale in New Orleans (lucky me!!!) and he installed it for me. The engine ran so well I decided to paint the car to make it perfect. The car literally looks new and needs absolutely nothing as it sits. I also bought OEM Vader sheepskin seat covers (not cheap) to protect the seats and stoneguards to protect the wide rear fenders. There is minimal wear on the drivers bolster but I am having both seats redyed next week. I also had the subwoofer refoamed due to age and the headlight covers polished.
The only flaw on this car as it sits is that the self dimming mirror leaked (very common) and caused a slight peeling of the gray color center console about the size of a dime. Mirror can be repaired for $100 at radarmirror.com Console can easily be removed and repainted just haven't had time.
Interior is two-tone grey & black.
Soft top looks new and was replaced with OEM top a few years ago.
This car was exceptionally maintained & I have 10yrs worth of records to prove it.
Runs fantastic!!! Looks new!!!
0-60 4.6sec and will basically blow the doors off anything on the road if you want to drive it that way. Personally I never did.
I am an enthusiast and own 3 BMW's and have driven nothing but BMW's for 25yrs since i drove my first euro M6 on the autobahn in 1989.
Car is bone stock but I do have headers for it that gives a legitimate extra 20hp.
Good luck finding another car like this one!!! These cars prices are soaring right now and the 01-02 are extremely collectable if you know anything about these cars due to the S54 engine.
Feel free to call me. Will take pics over the next few days to post. One posted is just for reference.
