Seller Description

Well after taking a second look at the car for a couple months, addressing my situation and really thinking too much, i've decided to try to get rid of my M again. Same reason as before, trying to get rid of my debt as I posture for an indefinite future. I wish I could afford to hold onto this car but I simply cannot. I have lowered the price from before because since listing it a few thousand miles ago, i realized the car needs new front brakes (which i will try to fix before the sale) and will be due for its 60,000 mile services in 6,000 miles. In the interest of full disclosure, I don't think I can charge someone top dollar for a car I know needs service soon. That being said, the car runs like a top, is in very near immaculate condition and will impress anybody who comes to see it. I bought it in mid-2010 with 41k miles and have used it as a DD, as a weekend toy, and recently as a garage queen.. The car is one of 11 S54 Alpine White on Imola Red M Roadsters, 8 2002 models (85 in total, including the S52s). jrmartin03 can attest to this car's brilliance, as he's spent a lot of time driving it, caring for it in my absence and watching me wash it .

Subframe: Prior to purchasing the car, I had a BMW specialist in Parker CO check out the subframe and give it a full PPI. They gave it a clean bill of health and said it was one of the best cared for Ms they had seen (there are a few M roadys driving around Colorado). Since taking ownership, i've been absolutely meticulous in making sure there are no indications of subframe separation, spot weld popping or the otherwise hints of any subframe problems. I'm VERY conservative driving the car and I dont think i've ever actually red-lined the car.

Previous Owners: I am the third owner, owner 1 was an old lady (i know right?) from AZ who purchased the car new from BMW. Owner 2 was a man who moved from AZ to Parker, CO and kept it from about 5,000 miles to 41,000 miles when I bought it. It has one accident on the carfax, when the previous owner (Owner 2) was in a gas station parking lot, the front bumper was all but ruined by a trailer, so there is a replacement bumper on the car. Paint match is perfect and there is a clear bra over it. Unfortunately owner 2 wasn't as cautious a driver as myself, so there is some scraping on the bottom of the bumper from what appears to be running it over a curb (cringe). If i were to keep it and progress on my plans to make it a concours condition car, I would have that repaired and the whole front end re-wrapped in clear-bra.

Overall condition:
Exterior: 9/10. As mentioned, the front bumper is not original and has some scraping on the bottom, aside from that, the paint is free of swirling and permanent scratches. There is a clear bra on the front which is due for replacement in my opinion (mind you, i'm as anal as anal gets). It is starting to yellow, which is a tell tale sign of an older clear bra. Peel that sucker off and you have brand spanking new paint. I've left it on since the roads here have their fare share of stones. There are a few VERY small stone chips in the hood, but honestly nothing that isn't commensurate of very well maintained paint and a responsibly driven car (I never tailgate, EVER and the only chips i've accumulated are from drives to the mountains with Jon, and the occasional cut-off on the highway). I'd say of the three owners of this car, I am by and large the most obsessive.

Interior: 8/10. I'm anal, as you can probably tell, and there are two things keeping the interior from perfection: 1) the driver's bolster is by no means bad, but not perfect. Number 2 is the center console in front of the window buttons has frayed slightly, leaving some black plastic showing (this literally boils my blood).

Mechanical: The car runs absolutely incredibly, and I am very, very cognizant of RPMs prior to seeing 200F on the oil temp gauge, when fully warm, i rarely (and i mean RARELY) bring the car over 6k RPM. The car is fast enough for me below 6 grand, and knowing the engine's weak spots, i'd rather be safe than sorry. I also never bog the engine down (very bad for rod bearings) and when I turn it on, it gets fully warmed up before it shuts off again.
-Front brakes are due for replacement (will replace as time permits)
-Clutch is perfect
-Steering is perfect
-Rear diff is dirty from the vent blowby, but nothing out of the ordinary
-Guibo is perfect
-Cooling system is perfect

My Comments

Sold 4/23/12 - Sale pending! Congrats and condolences to Colby, and congrats to the new owner.

It pains me to list this roadster again, but such is life. As it says in the listing, I can personally attest to this roadster's condition and the great care Colby has given it. I've car-sat it on several occasions for weeks at a time, and it's both a joy to drive and to look at. For example, I know for a fact that Colby has spent 4+ hours polishing the trunk and almost that much time in a single wheel well. I also love the color combo and his couple upgrades are well selected and high end. I think $19k is a good asking price for an enthuiast-owned, rare color combo, S54 roadster. You can find some more photos of it from various BBQs posted here. Better hurry before he changes his mind and pulls it from the market again.
